Brentford kick off their Premier League campaign with a stunning 2-0 win over Arsenal. The Bees scored a goal in each half and kept the Gunners at bay to earn their first points in the top flight after 74 years.
Sergi Canos, who had 7 minutes of Premier League before tonight, scored the first goal of the season. The Brentford midfielder beat Bernd Leno at the near post with a powerful shot, giving him no chance to get his hand to it.
Brentford created more chances in the first half but were unable to get another goal. The Premier League newcomers were the side likely to score the second goal of the game, with Bryan Mbeumo going close.
Second half started in a similar fashion with Arsenal on the backfoot. However, Mikel Arteta bringing on Bukayo Saka helped Arsenal get a grip, but they still could not score a goal.
A long throw from Rico Henry into the box sealed the game for Brentford, as Christian Nørgaard headed home the second goal. Nicolas Pepe came close to getting a goal back for Arsenal, but David Raya made a brilliant stop to end their hopes.
Arsenal dominated possession throughout the game but managed just 4 shots on target – one more than Brentford.
