Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez said every team in the knockout stages of last season’s Champions League wanted to be drawn against Chelsea as the London club were viewed as one of the weakest sides in the competition.
Under Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea defied the odds as they defeated the likes of Atletico, Real Madrid and Manchester City to claim their second Champions League crown.
Suarez, whose side lost in the last-16 to Chelsea, said the Blues’ run should serve as inspiration for less-fancied teams in Europe, including Atletico, who are seeking continental glory.
“The ambition does not have to stop and why not dream of having that possibility of entering the club’s history and winning a European Cup,” Suarez told Tribal Football.
“It would be something incredible, something unique. The teams and the possibilities are not marked by anyone before each season, whether one or the other is a favourite.
“Look at Chelsea, whom everyone wanted to face because they saw them as weak and they ended up winning the Champions League.”
Suarez also confirmed he would remain with Atletico for another season after leading them to LaLiga title.
