According to the latest statements from the Evening Standard, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will not be tempted by the prospect of signing the struggling Mario Gotze despite his situation at Borussia Dortmund.
The Gotze-Liverpool saga dates way back to 2016 when the former was on the lookout for new employers after his three-year stint at Bayern Munich. A host of flop signings had cast major doubt over Klopp’s business potential in the English division, and Gotze only rubbed salt to the wounds by rejecting a move to Anfield.
Liverpool would go on to buy the explosive Sadio Mane, who has since been in Ballon d’Or recognition season after season.
Meanwhile, Gotze’s career has gone completely down-slope since his muscle disease in 2017. The wily midfielder has only managed five Bundesliga starts this season for BVB.
Gotze recently made it certain that he would be leaving the Signal Iduna Park for the second time in his career, upon notifying a change in agents. He wrote:
“Today I would like to announce that after intensive consideration, I have decided to make a change in the planning of my career. I have consciously taken my time over this step. It is an important decision for my sporting future and I am very much looking forward to working with Reza Fazeli and his agency International Soccer Management (ISM), whose professional competence has absolutely convinced me.”
The above report claims that although Klopp is a manager who deeply values loyalty, he will not want to buy the out-of-sort Germany international in order to serve the entire team’s interests.
It is now upto Gotze to decide his next club, as even if he were to switch to Anfield, there would be no guarantee of minutes since Klopp has already converted his players to world-class professionals.
