Manchester United eye £52m swoop for ‘next Bruno Fernandes’

Manchester United are reportedly set to raid Sporting Lisbon once again as they eye a move for Portuguese midfielder Pedro Goncalves.

Goncalves, who came through the ranks of the Wolves academy, had the best season of his career in 2020-21, scoring 23 goals and providing four assists in 32 games for Sporting. His phenomenal form played a huge role in Sporting capturing the Liga NOS title.

United, who signed Bruno Fernandes from Sporting 16 months ago, are keen on bringing Goncalves, who reportedly has a £52million release clause in his contract, to Old Trafford in the summer.

However, Sporting are unlikely to let go of the 22-year-old without a fight and are reportedly hoping to tie him down to a new contract.

Manchester United are set to face competition from Liverpool to sign Goncalves. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are also reportedly leading the race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho in what could be a busy summer for the Manchester club.
