Manchester United join race for signing Bayern Munich midfielder

Manchester United have emerged as one of the clubs to secure the signing of Thiago Alcantara as Bayern Munich look to create a bidding battle for the outgoing playmaker.

CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed that the midfielder will be departing the Allianz Arena after he rejected an extension of his contract which is about to expire in 2021. The former Barca man spent 7 successful seasons and won numerous trophies.

The Bavarians are reluctant to let go of the 29-year-old player and are hoping to create more interest from various clubs to ensure that they receive the full asking price.

According to ESPN, Liverpool was leading the race to sign the Spanish midfielder, but have so far refused to meet the 30 million Euros price tag set by the Bavarians.

The Red Devils have admitted their interest in the past for signing Alcantara and could give the Premier League Champions a stiff competition for securing his signature.

The Spanish Playmaker played a vital role for his side by winning the treble this campaign under Hans-Dieter Flick.
