Manchester United set to sign Aston Villa shot-stopper

The Red Devils have agreed to a shocking free transfer swoop for signing Tom Heaton from Aston Villa. The keeper will depart the club once his deal expires as he rejected a contract extension.

According to the express, it is understood that Heaton will join the Red Devils after he opted not to extend his deal with Dean Smith’s side and United have quickly moved to bring the 35-year-old keeper to Old Trafford before the start of the next campaign with the talks going on for last few weeks and will be announced as United’s first signing of the season.

Heaton established himself as a popular character in the Premier League and was impressive for Sean Dyche’s Burnley before joining Villa in 2019. Unfortunately, his first season was cut short due to a horrific knee injury keeping him in the sidelines.

The signing of Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal, the 35-year-old has fallen down the pecking order prompting him to search for another club. Ole Gunnar Soljskaer looks to have secured an experienced backup for De Gea and Dean Henderson.

The current United pair have also been linked with exits as the Red Devils boss recently admitted he will have to make a firm decision over his No.1 choice in 2021/2022.

However, it is also understood that United are unlikely to offer anything longer than a one-year deal at the club with third-choice keeper Lee Grant set to depart the Old Trafford this summer.
