Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans says he “does not care” about rumours linking him with a potential move to Liverpool.
The Belgian international has been one of Leicester’s standout players since arriving from Monaco in 2019. Tielemans was instrumental in Leicester’s fifth-place finish in the Premier League and their FA Cup triumph, with his performances attracting the attention of several top European clubs, including Liverpool.
According to reports, Liverpool view Tielemans as the ideal replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who left the club after his contract expired at the end of the season.
However, Tielemans, who is currently with the Belgian team at Euro 2020, played down the speculation over his future and insisted his focus was on performing on the pitch.
“That’s really none of my business right now. Let the journalists speak. They undoubtedly have a lot to do with that,” he told a news conference. “But I don’t care about that. All I can do is make sure that I am as good as possible on the pitch.
“I don’t think about it. I am focusing on the Euros. I don’t listen to transfer rumours. No matter how much I am valued, it doesn’t change anything for me. I just want to make the best Euros I can.”
Tielemans has two years left on his current deal and Leicester are reportedly trying to tie him down to a new contract.
