Ronaldo explains why PSG are not Champions League favorites

Ronaldo Nazario has dismissed the Champions League favorites tag on PSG.

Paris Saint-Germain signed Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi and Gini Wijnaldum this summer, and kept hold of Kylian Mbappe. That made the French side the instant favorites for the Champions League for most pundits and fans around the world.

However, Ronaldo Nazario has refused to pick them as the favorites for the European title this season. He claims it is too early to pick a winner, but admits PSG are in the pole position.

“It is still too early to say who will win the Champions League. The picture begins to take shape at the quarter-final stage. Paris Saint-Germain are in pole position, but it’s one thing to talk and another to play.”

Ronaldo compared the current star-filled PSG side to his Galacticos at Real Madrid. He claims a team needs to do well together and him not winning the Champions League at Santiago Bernabeu shows best players doesn’t automatically result in titles.

“There are many factors that influence the outcome on the pitch. I played for Real Madrid for almost five seasons, in the team of the Galacticos, and I never won the Champions League. Winning is never automatic, even if you have the best players in your team, and that also applies to PSG.”

PSG have been drawn in Group A in the Champions League this year. They are set to face Manchester City, Club Brugge, and RB Leipzig in the group stages, that kick off on September 14th.
